RAM Overclocking
RAM Overclocking
Hello everyone, my detailed specs are listed in my signature. I’m planning to explore RAM overclocking just to test it out. Should I focus on increasing the frequency or tightening the timings? My current setup is 3800MHz CL16 (stock) which is stable, while 3600MHz CL14 (stock) also holds steady. Mixing both isn’t reliable. Should I prioritize timings or frequency for better performance? I’m using memtest on a bootable USB drive to confirm my changes.
Both options will behave alike. Either choice should be effective.
This focuses more on enjoyment than practical success. With a Ryzen chip, you need to determine your maximum clock frequency first. From there, adjust timings and locate the optimal RAM speed for minimal latency at the highest possible frequency. Remember, latency should always come before bandwidth.
I'm using Aida64 and Passmark Performance Test. Geek Bench also seems to work well.
Basically first OC the infinity fabric to find out where the limit with my 3700x is, then take the momory to the matching frequency and then tighten the timings as much as possible. Did i understand that correctly?
In short, you might face some decisions between the CL14 3600 and the CL16 3800Mhz. If Intel were making it, the CL14 option would be preferable since its latency is lower. However, when FCLK comes into play, things become more complex. If you can get to a CL15 model, the 3800 could be the better choice. You can safely raise your DRAM voltage up to 1.45V and even 1.5V might work for continuous use.
Sure, thanks for the details. I’ll give it a shot soon and check out what works. I don’t need top performance since I don’t use my PC for heavy tasks, but customizing it is enjoyable. You’ll probably agree with me—everything in your system gets tweaked too.
