Hey there, I'm trying to figure out the difference between the Asus Z790 Hero and the MSI MEG Z790 ACE. I noticed the MSI specs talk about Max RAM OC speeds, which is a bit confusing for me. I'm planning to buy two 16GB DDR5 7600mhz modules and want to know if I can run both at 7600mhz together. Does that mean I won't be able to use the full speed on both sticks?
1DPC 1R corresponds to one stick, 2R means two sticks per channel (properly installed 2x16GB). 2DPC 1R is two sticks in the same channel (not optimal setup). 2DPC 2R provides four sticks, but Mobo won’t guarantee more than 6600 with those in separate channels. You can’t have different speeds—every memory must operate together. The RAM you’re considering is mainly a marketing feature; it won’t allow both sticks to run at that speed. You should likely be able to use just one stick at that speed.
Interesting point, the Asus Z790 Hero seems to overlook that. It appears they’re not specifying details like 7600mhz RAM, which could hide key info and mislead buyers when they claim 7800+.
I considered this earlier too. It seems DPC controls per channel while R stands for rank. Whether it's a single rank or dual rank hinges on the RAM type. For DDR5 16GB modules (like two 8GB chips), they tend to be single rank. But DDR5 usually has dual rank only with 32GB units (such as one 16GB or two 16GB). On the motherboard, most 4-slot boards allocate two slots for the first channel and two for the second. If you place RAM in slots A2 and B2 (assuming order A1, A2, B1, B2), you remain limited to one DPC per channel. So a 1DPC with 1R means either one single-rank stick (e.g., 1x16GB) or two sticks, both single rank but not in the same channel (e.g., 2x16GB in A2 and B2). A 2R setup is identical, but for dual-rank chips (like 1x32GB or two 32GB), you get a 2DPC 1R with either two single-rank sticks in the same channel (e.g., A2 and A3) or four single-rank sticks spread across the slots.
They have advanced features beyond Zen4, but achieving that in Zen4 isn't feasible. Most users won't be able to handle XMP 2 sticks at that level. Results can differ, so be prepared for variations. If Buildzoid claims it's challenging with DDR5-7200, it really is.
It looks like he’s adjusting his RAM to 7200mhz manually, but the sticks are already native/xmp 7600 and he won’t be overclocking them beyond what the board specifications state.
Indeed, but it's a "predefined" profile that was supposedly tested and confirmed, and not you messing with the timings and voltages to see what you can get. In this case, i just noticed that the MSI MEG Z790 ACE board does not list the RAM sticks i want on their RAM compatibility list, but Asus does, so i guess this just made my decision to Asus If they listed as compatible by the board, with those speeds, i assume you will be able to run them at those speeds, XMP profile ofc.
Observe the following segment. He notes that few with 7600XMP capabilities will succeed. You shouldn't assume you can handle 7600 stable without a premium processor or IMC.
