If you have just a single stick usually people put it on the outward slot to avoid cooler problems. There's typically no tangible difference in terms of performance excluding extreme OC.

It seldom counts much, my brother's computer because it only starts up with the dimmer switches near the CPU, even though every slot functions properly. Naturally, I’d expect to test another slot if this specific dim doesn’t fit.
