Hey, I’m looking at updating my PC with more RAM since 8GB feels a bit tight for some games lately. Right now I’ve got a 4x4GB HyperX Fury 2400MHz setup, an Asus TUF B450 gaming laptop, a stock Ryzen 1300X, a 500GB M.2 Samsung 970 EVO drive, and an RX 580 with 8GB RAM. I also have an older Toshiba HDD and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo G3. It’s not the perfect setup, but it works just fine. About two weeks ago I decided to do a clean Windows reboot because my system was still using the old HDD (don’t judge me). I did it right after getting the new RAM so I could clean up and install the new parts. At first everything seemed okay. Nothing too out of the ordinary. That’s when things started to get worse. Two weeks in, browsing Chrome tabs began crashing randomly. It was odd but I just restarted again. Eventually I noticed blue screens with kernel errors, games like CS:GO would crash unexpectedly, and eventually I realized it was probably a RAM issue. I ran a Windows diagnostic and it confirmed the problem. I tried reinstalling everything, but nothing changed. Then I started downloading drivers one by one, which caused frequent restarts. Things got even worse—bluescreens appeared, random crashes, and I was pretty sure the RAM was faulty. After testing with the Windows tool, it confirmed the RAM was defective. I decided to replace it without my new sticks and got no errors afterward. I returned the old ones and rebooted again, only to find the RAM slots were damaged. I tried the new ones this morning and after about half an hour a Chrome tab crashed. I don’t know if that made me cry or laugh, but it was frustrating. Now I’m back to rebooting and dealing with the faulty RAM. I’m worried about replacing the motherboard since I don’t have much money for that. I’d really appreciate any advice or questions you could help me with—even the simple ones. Thanks a lot!
I’m not sure if this will cause any issues since I just purchased the same kit. At least the name, frequency, etc., are the same. The look is slightly different, but I’m uncertain if that might lead to problems. I still have the others, so I can experiment with combining all the new sticks. However, the error message on Chrome suggests a corrupted kernel file, so I’ll restart again and try later. Thanks for your help!
