Hello, when assembling my PC I bought DDR4 3600 RAM with 64 gigs. After some testing it appears the RAM is only operating at 2400. What might be behind this issue? Here are my details.
gpu - 3080 ti
cpu - amd ryzen 9 5900x 12 core
memory - 64 gigs
motherboard - msi tomahawk max ii b450
storage - samsung ssd evo plus 2 terabytes
power supply - corsair 2023 gold 1000w
please let me know if there’s anything else you should consider.

Verify that your kit is compatible with the motherboard. MSI will supply a list on their product support pages. If available, have you activated the RAM's EXPO profile in your BIOS?

I can't locate any supported components, but I suspect within the two years your PC would have been clear that the RAM isn't compatible. It might just run slower, not work at all. Would you like me to explain what these profiles mean?

this indicates there is no EXPO profile available for this RAM, meaning it won't load automatically. it will operate at standard speeds until the user enters the manufacturer's specifications. it might also suggest testing at the memory manufacturer's rated settings, but performance didn't meet those standards.

AMD boards employ a profile named EXPO for their compatible RAM kits.
this lets the user quickly enter manufacturer-rated speeds by choosing this profile instead of manually setting all parameters.

verified the compatibility, it looks good. Regarding the profiles, I reviewed the bios and decided on profile 2. Since I noticed my dram frequency was set to auto, I adjusted it to 3600 mhz to test if it would raise the 2400. I’ll confirm whether this change made a difference.

you'd need to verify that this profile aligns with the specified RAM speeds.
typically there are several profiles available with various settings to select from.
if the 3600MHz speed wasn't utilized with this profile, you should also confirm that your timing and voltage parameters are accurate.

you can check the specifications and timing details on the device's manual or manufacturer website. voltage information is usually listed in the technical data sheet, and timing may vary slightly depending on the model.

Check the CPU-Z memory and spd tabs for screenshots (upload to mgur.com and post the link).
If you're seeing incorrect ram mhz values in Task Manager, those readings may not be reliable.

Profile 1 is typically the standard manufacturer-rated setup.
2 has generally been included if problems occur with profile 1.
The manufacturer's specifications can be found on the packaging and the product's website.
BIOS settings are usually managed via Advanced or another grouping offered by MSI.
If you're not comfortable with BIOS configurations or MSI, you'll need to look them up.
