Hey everyone, back in 2019 I assembled a PC with a Ryzen 7 3700X processor and 16 GB of memory (two 8 GB modules). Things were fine then, but now the situation has changed drastically. The currency has plummeted, making it tough to afford even basic components like RAM these days. My current income is around $90, compared to $1400 back then. I ended up purchasing another RAM package from HiKvision, which also offered DDR4 3000 MHz CL16. I chose them because they seemed compatible with my setup. However, I’ve learned that AMD processors prefer fast memory and dislike mismatched speeds. Since I couldn’t afford a better deal, I ended up with two 8 GB Corsair modules paired with two 8 GB HiKVision units, giving me a total of 32 GB of RAM. I manually set the timings for both brands—Corsair at 16 RAS to CAS, 20 RAS precharge, 38 tRC, and HiKVision at 1500 FCLK and 3000 CAS. I haven’t enabled XMP, just set the frequency manually. The performance is solid for my current tasks: Adobe InDesign, music production with Ableton Live, and gaming. I rarely see BSODs while gaming, though occasional ones still occur, especially when idle or streaming. Even before the new RAM, I experienced BSODs with similar error codes (IRQL not less or equal and memory management issues). My current timings appear accurate. My system runs on an MSI X570 A-Pro CPU, Ryzen 7 3700X, with a Seasonic Gold 550 W PSU.
RAM can be finicky. Even two identical modules from different packages might not work well together. When it comes to settings, I haven’t really adjusted anything much, so I can’t suggest precise numbers. Just try the default settings and let the system handle it.
You set the main clock values properly, but several additional clocks and parameters might be contributing to the issue. A straightforward solution exists: consider changing your RAM setup so each memory module operates in its own channel. This lets the memory controller independently manage timing and settings for each kit. Also, you mentioned not using XMP, but instead setting timings manually. Did you adjust the voltage settings? Rather than skipping XMP, enable it first—it will also correct the voltage—and then fine-tune the primary timings as required.
All kits operate in dual channel (2&4, 1&3). I’ll attempt to enable XMP and adjust the timings. Thanks.
