Hello, I'm preparing for a Threadripper 3960x+Gigabyte Aorus Master and wondering about the best RAM setup. With 32GB of RAM available, should I choose a 2x16 or 4x8 configuration? The board supports eight RAM slots, and I'm considering Corsair Dominator Platinum 3466MHz CL16 modules. Since you plan to overclock the RAM for benchmarking, it's important to know which configuration works best.

I truly suggest Micron RAM (Crucial) or Samsung B-die RAM. Steer clear of Hynix-based options at all costs. From a performance standpoint, the 4x8 is ideal, though the 2x16 offers greater upgrade potential.

They perform better on AMD platforms. For example, I own three Hynix RAM kits, none of them functioned at their XMP levels with my 3800x. The Micron kit I was permitted to try only worked on the first attempt at 4000 MHz. My 3600 MHz kit from Hynix failed to run above 3400 MHz without crashing, and it was nearly impossible to get into BIOS more than half the time. B-die, this tends to be quite reliable for overclocking, though the new Micron RAM featured on the Buildzoids channel did impress—imagine getting a 3800 MHz and it working smoothly.

Sure, besides the RAM chip for dimming, there are other options you might consider.
