Hi, I bought RAM that seems to be faster than what my motherboard supports. My system is an MSI B450M M-2 with DDR4 3000MHz. Can I install it in BIOS and then use X AMP to overclock it? At this stage, it won't even start up.

What are you referring to?
Your motherboard indeed allows memory speeds up to 3466Mhz.
MSI Motherboard Link
All AM4 B350/B450 supports DDR4 at 3000Mhz.
If your memory only recognizes speeds between 2100-2400Mhz instead of full speed, then yes, you should enable the XMP profile. By default, the BIOS restricts RAM to standard speeds to prevent boot issues. If XMP activation causes boot problems, you might want to set the memory speed manually. You should likely be able to get it working at 2999Mhz.

The device won't power on through BIOS, but it produces three beeps from the speaker and the RAM indicator lights up.

The system won't even start into BIOS. I hear three beeps from the speaker and the RAM light is on. It seems like you might have a bad RAM, or it isn't compatible with your motherboards. If you're using dual sticks (2x4GB, 2x8GB or 2x16GB), try using just one stick and swap them to see if one is faulty. With single sticks, there could be compatibility problems or the RAM might be defective—consider returning it for repair. What's your memory and CPU?

It seems to be the same voltage and specifications as the other memory on there. The CPU is Ryzen 5 2600, RAM is Patriot Memory VIPER 4 Series 3000MHz (PC4 24000) with 8GB Dual Channel DDR4, kit PV48G300C6K. I've attempted to install the sticks one at a time in both slots without success.

It doesn't make sense for the 3200 version to work while the 3000mhz version doesn't, despite both being compatible.

Have you attempted to clear the CMOS to revert the BIOS settings back to their default state?

It doesn't guarantee the BIOS won't have incorrect settings. Try unplugging the computer, shorting the Clear CMOS jumper pins with a metal object for about 10 seconds, and observe if it improves the situation. Also, check for any debug LEDs on the board near different components to see if they illuminate when an issue occurs.

I'll attempt that again. By debug lights, I believe you're referring to the ones marked dram CPU and vga. The dram light turns on during boot.
