RAM configuration for MSI x470 Gaming plus/2700X
Using the MSI x470 Gaming Plus with a 2700X CPU has been stable so far with a 16GB Corsair kit. To boost performance for Flight Simulator, I added another identical kit to increase RAM. This caused several system issues. I experimented with manual settings at 3200mhz and 3000mhz without XMP, but nothing worked. After some research, it appears the RAM isn’t in the QVL, so I’ll need a different setup. With so many choices, I’m worried about picking the wrong one. Any advice on 32GB ~3200mhz kits that fit this CPU/mobo combo? I want to keep things quiet with my BeQuiet cooler.
Consider lowering the system clock first. It's possible the issue isn't with the RAM itself but with the CPU memory controller or the board traces struggling to manage high-speed memory usage. Replacing the RAM with a compatible model at a similar speed won't solve it either. Start by testing a slower clock rate.
The memory QVL doesn't fully define motherboard compatibility. It might simply mean the two memory kits aren't compatible. For me, it seems like buying a new memory package instead of trying fixes feels like a waste. Activate XMP and adjust the frequency to roughly 2666-2933MHz. If that fails, reset CMOS, enable XMP again, set frequency to the same range, and configure SOC voltage between 1.1-1.15V with DRAM at 1.4V. Also, note that 3200MHz dual rank on Zen+'s IMC isn't guaranteed.
Thnx for the tip. Going to try this first thing tomorow. Will post if I make some progress.
I faced the same problem with XMP on my 2700X using the same Corsair memory, and I ended up installing Ryzen Master to adjust the memory speed to 3000MHz, which worked perfectly without any issues.
