Choosing between 4x8 and 2x16 RAM depends on your needs. 4x8 offers more total capacity in a compact form, while 2x16 provides higher bandwidth per slot but less overall size. Consider your workload and budget to decide what fits best.

It varies by CPU model. Most common chips use dual-channel RAM, so you don’t need four sticks—especially with Ryzen processors. However, some high-end models support quad channels. What CPU do you own?

If you're still choosing your CPU, the advantages of RAM speed alone don't justify purchasing a HEDT platform with four-channel RAM. The price of these platforms is far beyond what's needed for just faster RAM. In most builds, using single-rank versus dual-rank RAM DIMMs can still improve performance.

I plan to go with a 3900x at that stage. I need 32gbs because I'm saving and adjusting the price per unit while upgrading my current setup.
