I prefer 16 gig capacity for storage. For performance, using the 8 gig in single channel and doubling it to 16 gig in two 8 gig units would yield better results if both are single sticks. Honestly, I’d choose capacity. Regarding timings, please let me know the specifications for each kit.

I believe both models use DDR4 memory. Timing refers to how quickly data moves between the RAM and processor, which affects performance. You're right about them being single-channel, so it's good to know that when choosing a new laptop.

this impacts performance in several ways. a 16 gig setup is often recommended. if your tasks don’t need more power, the 8 gig version could be sufficient and more cost-effective.

16 GB offers advantages over 8 GB unless you're just handling office tasks, then 16 is excessive. The added speed boosts frame rates on current AMD and the newest Intel systems. For Intel 1151 platforms, 2400 MHz is sufficient, so faster RAM won't provide much extra gain, but it's still necessary for today's games and productivity work.
