Radeon R5 255M is found but isn't functioning properly.
I possess a HP ProBook G2 450 core i7 5500U 5th gen machine with 8GB RAM, Intel HD 5500 and AMD Radeon R5 255 GPU. I've attempted several fixes:
● Downloading new BIOS from the HP website
● Setting up a fresh OS (Windows 10, 8.1)
● Updating drivers for both Intel HD 5500 and AMD Radeon R5
● Deleting GPU drivers via DDU
● Installing Catalyst drivers while disabling the GPU in BIOS
● Using a Linux Mint laptop which reports an error during boot due to GPU SMU firmware failure
The only indication of activity is detection of the card after removing drivers, but no GPU memory appears.
Any advice on resolving the GPU issue or determining if repair is possible?
Step one involves verifying that the failure is occurring, though I’m still uncertain about it. The intel CPUs use an iGPU unless it can’t manage the problem, then it switches to a DGPU to save power. The goal is to see if the DGPU activates. You might need to ensure the device is connected properly for the DGPU to turn on.
