R9 5900x encounters Event 18 WHEA-Logger and Event 55 Kernal-Processor-Power issues.
Experienced two Event 18 crashes while playing Apex Legends over roughly an hour, seemingly without warning. Also encountered Event 55 related to CPU power management. Recently upgraded X570 chipset drivers from version 2.13.27.501 to the latest 2.17.25.506. Updated BIOS on Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master from F32 to F34. Still waiting to confirm Event 18 recurrence, but noticed Event 55 appears each time the system boots up cold. Possible causes remain unclear.
I'm sorry to hear that! The font color effect wasn't what I expected. Outside of adjusting the manual fan curve for the two case fans and turning on XMP, nothing else in the BIOS was modified. I saw a discussion on Reddit about someone with the same setup changing the Power Supply Idle Control setting. I'm planning to test the "Typical Current Idle" option in BIOS version F34 with X570 chipset drivers 2.17.25.506. I'll keep an eye on the Event 18 WHEA-Logger output and note any changes. My RAM setup remains at 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo, XMP clocked at 3600 MHz with timings CL16-19-19-39-58 at 1.35v. No other adjustments were made.
The RAM you have doesn’t match any listed specifications. The nearest option is F4-3600C16Q-32GTZNC. Since you previously bought a 3800x with the same RAM, it’s possible compatibility issues if you switch to the 5900x. Also, using only one 8-pin connector might not meet the power demands of the 5900x, so connecting the second one could be necessary.
It's a recognized problem with more cores in Ryzen processors. A permanent solution isn't available yet, likely because the automatic overclocking settings are too strong for these new chips and not all motherboards support them equally. https://community.amd.com/t5/processors/...d-p/423321 If switching the second CPU doesn't resolve the issue, consider checking the thread or submitting a return merchandise authorization. AMD allows RMA for this situation since the chip is expected to run stable out of the box. I've tried some of the settings mentioned and it seems my 5900X is now stable with CBS and PBO enabled, plus ram overclocks. Make sure to keep an eye on updates for the latest stable BIOS, as some motherboards still lack solid firmware.
Looks like updating BIOS, chipset drivers, and maybe the second cable solved my WHEA-Logger problem. I usually faced an error in the event viewer about once every couple days, the most recent one right before I made those changes. I've also been running some stress tests lately. I'm hoping it stays like this. If it appears again, I'll send a return merchandise authorization for my 5900x with AMD and switch back to the 3800x temporarily. Appreciate all the advice!
