Hello, I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 5600 (non-x) on a B450M-HDV R4.0. I'm planning to upgrade to a 5800X3D next week. While the board isn't ideal, it performed well with the 5600 earlier. My main worry is whether everything will function properly on the new board with the 5800X3D and PBO. I've noticed some Reddit discussions suggesting problems getting started. Does anyone here have experience with this setup and confirm it works?

Not listed on the recommended CPU range. With PBO it exceeds its 105W TDP limit. My 5800X3D reaches 120W in Cinebench at standard settings, possibly due to that restriction. https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M-HDV/index.asp#CPU https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M-HDV R4.0/index.asp#Specification

I believe you discovered an older version or a different iteration. This is the one I have: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M-HDV R4.0/index.asp#CPU It appears listed under supported. Decide if you want to take the risk or proceed with caution.

I understand now, it makes more sense. I was wondering why they highlighted 5600X3D instead of 5800X3D. Alright, let's give it a try. Based on Asrock, it works because the component is rated at 105W and even if it goes higher, it doesn't matter. The motherboard won't blow up if it reaches 120W. If the VRM gets too hot, it might slow down.

Consider it a test—on paper the power rating matters, though strong airflow inside a case can help offset that.

I'm not sure without trying it. I plan to place the order this weekend and share an update next week once it goes smoothly.
