You recently secured a solid deal on a 5800X and swapped the 2700X in your x470. It was an exciting and quite intense experience changing the CPU, even though I’d already updated the BIOS. Thanks to AMD’s support for compatibility, that was a big plus. My main worry was the temperatures—here’s what I see on HWInfo64, and I haven’t done any overclocking yet. What are your thoughts?

Check the maximum temperatures and see if you performed a sustained full-core workload.

I performed a Cinebench R23 assessment and completed it for 10 minutes. The MT Score reached 15250, ST Score was 1523. During the session, CPU utilization peaked at 4.45GHz with a maximum temperature of 87°C across all cores.

Consider trying the maximum overclock for each core at 1.25V while keeping other settings automatic. Then observe the temperatures.

It's a bit hot, but that's a good CPU from my perspective. PBO is simply the auto-overclock option. I favor PBOII in the rear area.

I've been looking into some YouTube tutorials on undervolting, but I'm still unsure about applying them. Many videos are very detailed with technical jargon, making it hard for me to grasp the basics. If anyone knows what to do specifically for an ASUS X470 Pro with a 5800X chipset, please guide me. I've heard about PBO and PBO2 techniques, but without full clarity, I might not try them or could share someone else's experience if helpful.

Your temperatures are within acceptable ranges during Cinebench. Are you planning to keep your CPU at full capacity for extended periods? That’s not a major issue. However, if you do run it at high load, 10 minutes won’t give you a reliable picture—test it over many hours to understand the real limits. As mentioned before, turning off PBO will reduce aggressiveness and lower temperatures significantly.
