Due to technical constraints, you're pairing an older chipset with a modern CPU. Building a powerful VRM section wasn't necessary when the B450 chipset was introduced. AMD chose to keep using the same AM4 socket across three generations of Ryzen processors—Ryzen 1000, 2000, and now 3000—to simplify upgrades for customers. This approach is impressive because it eliminates the need to replace the motherboard when moving from a 1000-series chip to a 3000-series Ryzen model. However, it also means that motherboard makers like Gigabyte couldn't anticipate the requirements of the newer CPUs years in advance, so they had to adapt to meet current demands.

Execute a 3700x with PBO activated. It should work fine. If you're overly concerned, simply add a fan to the VRMs. The issue is resolved. Many people exaggerate about VRM temps. A 3700x is just a 95-watt device—it's not significantly more power-hungry than a 2700x or 1800x.

Fans off or at 5% and below 50c when all cores and threads are loaded with an overvoltage. Under Prime 95 only up to 53c maximum.

It means you can install the R7 3700X with some minor airflow restrictions. The setup includes two intake fans, one exhaust fan, and a radiator with two smaller fans, along with a 240mm radiator. This configuration is considered minor airflow in your context.

The temperatures should remain comparable since both chips have similar power consumption.
