I set up the R5 3600 on a X570 motherboard for future upgrades. The cooler came with it, but temperatures reached 88°C during use. I switched to water cooling because air cooling was too hot. After installing the cooler, the CPU stayed stuck on the heat sink. When I removed it, it popped off rather than releasing properly. It never landed on its pins. With water cooling, the temps max out around 75°C, which is still high. Memory is running at 3200, not 3600, so stability issues might be causing the problem.
When installing the cooler, always move the CPU to the cooler's edge if possible to prevent it from popping off. Be mindful as you approach; it may shift suddenly, so proceed gently. It helps to work slowly and carefully. If the CPU is still warm, you can push it onto the cooler's surface or a nearby table edge for a smoother removal. This usually resolves the issue because vacuum pressure prevented the TIM from moving. Using the original TIM can cause sticking if it hardens; it’s best to avoid it unless necessary. Temperatures often rise during folding due to load, which is normal for Ryzen. Consider using the GPU instead—it's faster and more efficient. If you must use both, set up a dedicated GPU slot and remove the CPU slot for folding.
Make sure the CPU pins face upward, not downward. It’s likely it’s upside down, so push gently at a corner to start moving it. The spinning will signal progress, but be cautious near the cooler edges—once clear, it becomes much easier to release.
It can occur sometimes. If you wish to prevent this in the future, perform a stress test on your CPU (or any component that gets hot) briefly before taking it out. This will raise the temperature of both the CPU and the thermal paste, helping it soften and making removal simpler.
