r3 2200g to 2600 or 1600af
I've been posting a lot about upgrading my 2200g. Now it's actually coming to pass. I sold some home computer parts and earned around 140 euros. Keep in mind I'm based in Sweden, so prices here are a bit higher than elsewhere. After searching, I found two choices: Ryzen 5 2600 for 130 euros (free 1-2 day shipping) and Ryzen 5 1600af for 108 euros (free 3-5 day shipping). My current setup includes an Asrock A320M HDV R3 with 16GB RAM, two 8GB 3000MHz modules, an RX RX 480 graphics card, and a Corsair CX500M. I run everything on two monitors, one 60Hz TV, and a Samsung monitor at 75Hz. I mostly play Minecraft (with mods and vanilla, sometimes shaders), Destiny 2, Apex Legends, CS:GO, Warzone, and Call of Duty. Streaming games is on my list if internet improves. I also enjoy multitasking with apps like Spotify, Discord, and Steam while gaming.
I’d choose the 1600af rebrand 2600 or go with a more budget-friendly option. If it doesn’t work smoothly, it’s a waste of money. You should wait until the third generation releases this affordable a320 so you can get the best deal.
Ah i read somewhere the 1600af is basically a 2600 with lower clocks and a lot cheaper! Im guessing thats the one im going for! ;D And also, ive been thinkin bout waiting for the 3rd gen getting cheaper but then i also have to upgrade my mobo to something that supports it. SO it isnt only CPU costs. EDIT: i was first thinking buying a cpu upgrade right now, so i can play the games i want, and then buy a newer mobo after some time and money saving. So i can run the 1600af right now, buy a newer mobo and overclock that one, then later buy a newer gen ryzen.
It depends on your priorities—there’s only a slight difference between the 1600 AF and the 2600, mainly around 1-2 frames per second in games. You can choose wisely: either option lets you allocate funds to other needs like storage, RAM, or a better motherboard. If you’re okay with it, the Ryzen 5 1600 AF offers a 32 euro saving and allows a light overclock, giving performance close to or slightly better than the 2600.
I was thinking the same thing too. Grab the 1600af and set aside 30 euros for a better chip later. If I end up with a newer one, I can boost the 1600af and maybe extend its life, and then eventually move to a more recent model if needed.
