After reviewing all possible information about Intel vs. AMD for my new build, I notice a recurring idea in many discussions. Generally, AMD performs better in gaming but lags in productivity, while Intel excels in productivity but is less strong in gaming. This pattern seems to apply the same way for both brands. Can someone explain what "productivity" means in this context with examples? I want to understand if it matters for my situation and whether it should influence my CPU choice. Thank you.

There is a drop-down menu located at the bottom of each page.
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Review - The Top Gaming CPU
This AMD model offers eight powerful cores in one chip, with 3D VCache integrated, priced at $450. Our evaluation verifies that the 7800X3D stands out as the fastest gaming CPU on the market, surpassing Intel's 13900K and even the 7950X3D.

It appears "productivity" is frequently used broadly instead of being precise. It might refer to a computer for everyday tasks like crossword puzzles, or something much more capable—but without focusing on games.
It could simply mean no gaming at all, or only a minor role for it.
Often, gaming is the primary reason someone uses a PC, so emphasizing productivity helps highlight that for those with little or no gaming interest.

At each price level, AMD and Intel offer similar products.
Productivity can be understood as a workload capable of fully utilizing all processing threads.
To assess this, examine the passmark ratings. The leading chips will show a rating above 60000.
Games typically require fewer processing threads, though 6-8 and multiplayer may need more.
There are exceptions to consider.
For gaming, the priority is swift handling of the main processing thread.
This is where the amd x3d processors shine.
Their extensive cache provides a significant advantage.
In terms of productivity, the x3d cache clears itself, allowing the base processor to perform better.

My productivity depends on workstation types. At my job, I spend a lot of time handling CAD models. Others might focus on music or video production. Photo editing is also part of my tasks.

It seems you're trying to understand your computer usage. Are you focused on gaming, video or music production, CAD, rendering, virtualization, simulation, databases, spreadsheets, or a combination of these? In certain cases, you might have a clear answer about the ideal hardware for your needs, but that's not always the situation. What are your goals, and how much are you willing to invest? Have you purchased any components or were you considering a prebuilt setup?

Excellent breakdown and thoughts on the new computer artk2219. Most Intel and AMD models offer a solid mix of work efficiency and gaming speed. The choice really depends on individual tastes, along with price and budget. Cheers.
