I recently upgraded my PC with an NVMe drive on the motherboard. The main issue is migrating my Windows OS from a 1TB (around 600GB) hard drive to a 500GB SSD, but I keep getting errors like "this disk is too small" even though I'm only moving the OS, not all data. How can I resolve this? Should I reinstall Windows?

You need to transfer a portion of the information before moving the full amount. Likely, you'll have to shift over 100 gigabytes at a time.

Consider shifting all data above 400 GB to a different location, possibly a new HDD or similar device (or remove it if not necessary).
Adjust the partition windows so they fit within 500 GB or less.
Proceed with the operation.

It's not just copying the operating system; it's duplicating the entire storage device. With a 1TB drive containing a 1TB volume, cloning it won't be possible. You should move as much data as possible to another drive. Clear out all files like documents, downloads, music, and games—especially if you have Steam installed—transfer them elsewhere or uninstall temporarily. A simple Windows setup with minimal personal files will be significantly smaller than 100GB.
