I had to change both my ISP router and my primary router because I couldn’t recall my passwords. I have a simple beginner’s tip: I thought I had a DMZ configured on my ISP router to point to my main router’s IP address, so it would manage all my wireless and security settings. I also disabled the wireless radios on my ISP device. Was this approach effective, or would switching methods be better?

You need the ISP's router because it manages your internet connection, and the VoIP service relies on it for communication. The router ensures stable connectivity while the VoIP uses it to transmit calls.

They use an ONT from their provider and also have a main router with built-in ONT capabilities. All routers can operate in Bridge Mode, but it looks like their ISP doesn’t support it.

You're uncertain about this setup. It might be better to turn off HCP and firewall on the ISP's router. If you don't have many internet users and prefer using an Ethernet connection, sticking with the ISP's router seems appropriate.
