The issues with my old i5 6500 were frequent overheating, especially when running at full capacity. After upgrading to an i7 7700K, the PC started showing similar problems. The CPU would reach 100% for a short time, then cool down but would randomly spike back up to 20% or higher, accompanied by loud fan noise. After about five minutes, it would drop below 10% again. Chrome tabs would cause the CPU to jump to 80% and then quickly return.

I’m wondering what might be causing these fluctuations. Are the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE V2 fans too noisy? Or is my cooler just getting used to the new setup? Also, are the "Cores 2 and Logical Processors 4" specs accurate?

The fan temperatures on Chrome kept rising from 35 to 60 degrees and then decreasing. The fans became louder during spikes and quieter afterward.

Provide the power supply specifications, including voltage, amperage, age, and condition (original, build, refurbished, used). List the disk drive specifications such as make, model, and capacity, along with their current usage. Include a list of all connected peripherals. A box labeled "Open:" should be filled with "msinfo32" and then "OK". This will generate a system summary, though it may not contain all needed details for initial use. Check recent posts for more examples. The essentials are usually listed on the PC's specifications sheet at purchase.

It isn't surprising that you're not noticing a significant improvement. Switching from an i5-6500 to an i7-7700K doesn't prevent Windows from utilizing the full processing capacity when required. To truly experience any advantage, a system with more CPU cores would be necessary.

It is incorrect. A 7700K features 4 cores and 8 logical processors. Run msconfig, clear the Number of processors box and reboot. This will enable Windows to recognize the remaining CPU components. You must perform this action when upgrading to a processor with more cores and logical processors than before.

I wouldn't say "competely avoid" but you should be able to modify your agressive fan speed profile by setting the curve so the fan speeds up more gradually. The only "negative" side of running your CPU cooler fan(s) slower is the CPU will get hotter. Some people get worried about high CPU temperatures. Some people hate loud fan noise. I'm probably unusual because I tolerate both high CPU temperatures and loud fan noise, but I come from an engineering background and I've worked in large, very noisy server halls. Modern Intel CPUs are designed to run up to +100°C. Modern AMD CPUs are designed to run up to +89°C, +90 °C or +95°C (depending on model). My old Phenom II X4 965 tops out at only +60°C. How things have changed! Hot is now "good". When a modern CPU reaches its maximum design temperature, thermal throttling should engage, reducing the clock frequency and preventing the temperature from increasing. It's a bit like bouncing a vehicle's engine off the rev limiter, with the accelerator pinned wide open. I'm not sure how good the thermal over temperature protection is in your older i7-7700K. Caution might be advised. How hot you run your CPU depends on your fan curve settings. If you want a cooler processor, run the fans a bit faster at each point on the curve. If you want lower fan noise, accept somewhat higher CPU temperatures. You have to balance CPU temperature against fan speed. Your decision. Yes. See above. Play around with the fan curves. I haven't experimented with Fan Control before. The BIOS configurations have consistently sufficed for me, or MSI AfterBurner works well for GPUs. Not an option I'd contemplate for a standard PC fan setup, since: 1). Protection circuits frequently cut power instantly if they sense 0 RPM on the CPU fan connector. They presume the CPU fan has stopped working or been connected to the wrong pin. This is built-in to prevent overheating. 2). Certain fans disregard "impossible" adjustments (such as 0 RPM) and keep spinning at their lowest rated speed. Therefore, when you input 0 in your third-party Fan Control program, the fans seem to have ignored that setting. If the fans use PWM control, they get a steady +12V supply plus a variable square wave signal to regulate speed. The fan controller determines the minimum speed, not your software. In any scenario, a fan operating at around 300 RPM minimum is unlikely to reach a typical 25dBA level, which is almost silent with the case panels installed. Even at 500 RPM, I wouldn't anticipate more than about +27dBm. For details on configuring 0 RPM curves, you can check this link: https://forums. I haven't experimented with Fan Control before. The BIOS configurations have consistently sufficed for me, or MSI AfterBurner works well for GPUs. Not an option I'd contemplate for a standard PC fan setup, since: 1). Protection circuits frequently cut power instantly if they sense 0 RPM on the CPU fan connector.
