Questioni7-265K or 9900X ?
There’s often something improved just nearby, which is the challenge of purchasing new hardware.
Intel appears to be the stronger option for your needs unless you require AVX features or are among those who really replace their CPU.
I believe many people prefer the ability to upgrade a CPU over simply replacing the entire processor. I appreciate the concept but usually a fresh system makes more sense once you actually need an upgrade.
Still, I don’t think you’d face a poor result either way; both the Ryzen 9900X and the i7 265K are solid processors.
That's correct though, perhaps waiting a month or two could be beneficial (or 3-6 months, who knows when ARL-Refresh will arrive). It might even lead to a decrease in Arrow Lake prices because there would be more competition for the same product.
There won't be anything fundamentally different about it, if it hits the general market, other than potentially being slightly faster. Basically the rumors all seem to agree a bigger NPU is likely and maybe some clock speed. Given that we're almost half way through July and Intel hasn't said anything and the leaks are still sparse it doesn't seem to me like there's much to be said.
Having a better NPU is a downside so there's nothing worthwhile about the refresh.
Well, what can I say other than I appreciate your help across this thread, it was a very fruitful as well as educational conversation and I wish you a great day.
I'm fairly confident, with your help, I know which platform I'm buying now.
