I own an i7-14700K + Z790 Plus WiFi board.
During gaming I experienced temperatures between 70-88°C, but after undervolting it now stays around 55-68°C maximum. Core voltages remain consistent at 1.3 - 1.4. It's a bit lower than before, but still quite high.
Could this setup be safe for long-term use if performance drops?

To avoid any negative effects, upgrade your BIOS to 0x12b and turn on the Intel default settings, then lower the voltage.
The 1.3-1.4v you see might refer to the VID voltage, which isn't related to the real voltage. Since you've observed a temperature decrease, proceed gently and enjoy your game.

I upgraded the BIOS manually to version 1805, but I’m not sure what 0x12b means. I had to adjust the Intel default settings to an ASUS advanced OC profile in order to undervolt. It runs at low temperatures, and CPU-Z sometimes shows 1.3 during idle as well.

The 0x12b microcode update is part of the 1802 BIOS update and all later versions.

I had to perform the same adjustments on my 14600k and MSI Pro Z790-A WiFi board. My voltage readings, as I remember, were below 1.3 (possibly 1.27?), but the advanced settings were necessary to achieve undervolt. Here is the link to what I did: https://forums. I began with the CPU Lite adjustment videos. Then I reviewed the ones demonstrating examples for three different MOBOs, and finally checked the Reddit discussion. I believe the first post there now reflects the final configuration, but it’s still worth reading the full thread. The settings were straightforward to modify, and I’m currently running at 5.5Mhz on power and 4.4 on efficiency cores. Temperatures stay under 85°C. Edit - I wouldn’t even attempt the changes after updating the BIOS to advanced defaults unless you adjust the CPU Lite settings first. The default BIOS leaves the board vulnerable. Reducing CPU Lite to level 11 or lower, if possible, before testing will help bring temperatures down for proper evaluation. Running tests with the default BIOS can instantly push temps to 100°C, so avoid that. As advised, watch the videos before proceeding—they’ll guide you correctly.
