Questionbuild help
I'm working on assembling a new PC and require assistance with troubleshooting. My setup includes an MSI X870e motherboard, Ryzen 9 9950X processor, Corsair Vengeance memory (2x32), NZXT Kraken cooler. Initially, I intended to use integrated graphics temporarily (possibly the reason for the delay) and plan to add a GPU later.
When I first booted the system, it proceeded through the standard diagnostic codes (approximately a dozen) and then halted at code 00. A concern is that the monitor doesn't display anything, even though the connection is via HDMI. I'm uncertain if this is due to the monitor itself or another factor. I could attempt connecting via USB-C.
I've tried rebooting repeatedly, but it's stuck on code 15 for a long time. The cooler temperature reads around 28°C, which appears normal.
How can I better understand the issue? Possible causes include:
1) Requiring a GPU
2) Issues with Corsair memory (previously used MSI QLV)
3) Faulty pins in the CPU socket
4) Potential CPU failure.
Thanks!
Duane.
I tried a few things after seeing another post about someone struggling with running two sticks of RAM.
1) I reinserted both sticks, but still stuck on 15 code.
2) I pulled out the second stick, and it posted in a few seconds—monitor worked fine.
3) I swapped the first stick for the one I just pulled out; posts came in quickly without issues.
4) I put both sticks back in, and everything works smoothly.
I think updating the BIOS might be necessary for safety.
it's common for what you did to function properly. usually starting with one stick, then adding the second, and finally applying any XMP profiles once it's running on both sticks. i don't understand why it works this way, but this is the method i've been using from the beginning to prevent problems. updating the bios can be helpful on a new build, but i wouldn't bother with beta versions. just use the latest stable release.
