i actually think my problem is gpu recurcilating the hot air, when i took the glass panel off, gpu was blowing hot air to my legs, so it was basically dissipating heat towards the glass panel, and some of the air probably goes up after hitting glass which is fine but some goes directly below the gpu and there is no intake fan that blows air directly under the gpu now generally my gpu temp is not bad but does it affect the spot? There is probably some poor heatsink contact as well but how can i solve this issue, if i mount the gpu vertically technically all that hot air will go up, should i try that? Now i feel like a bottom case fan is absolutely necessary
It's common for nearly every PC to have an axial fan GPU cooler. This setup provides better cooling than a blower type, but it comes with downsides such as increased size and internal heat release, which raises the case temperature overall. If the AMD GPU behaves similarly to Nvidia's, the maximum hot spot temperature is significantly higher than the core. It might be best to leave it as is since nothing major was problematic from the start. Heat naturally rises, but inside a PC with fans, it can be managed by external cooling solutions. The exhaust points are on both sides and the grille at the backplate. When installed horizontally, the waste heat escapes through the cooler topside and sides, while vertically it spreads across the top, sides, and bottom.
In any case I sent the card to Asus, they said it's out of warranty, but if it's truly an issue on their side they might still look into extending the warranty or RMA, though if not they'll ask for a price. Personally, I don't care much about price or RMA right now; what matters is getting a hotspot with a 20-25 Delta and 1600-1800 rpm performance, similar to most of the Asus Prime cards.
My ASUS Prime 9070XT operates near 2750RPM when the side panel is on, dropping to around 2500RPM when it's off. The delta in edge and hotspot temperatures decreases by one degree Celsius. I have an XPG Defender Pro case with three fans—one front, one back, and one at the top—to maintain a slight positive air pressure. My 12400F runs at full load, especially when the GPU is strong at 1440p, but the CPU stays between 45-55°C on the Hyper212 air cooler. I frequently send my card to ASUS for replacement because I believe a 2700RPM fan speed is too high for a new card, which I've only used for about ten days. It remains on at ASUS. Are the XPG vento fans in the case sufficient for proper airflow? What should I do? They keep sending me the GPU back, and it runs well around 2000-2100RPM for a while, then worsens after a few days—like thermal paste leaking. I still doubt it’s my issue and suspect a faulty card with poor heatsink contact, but I’m curious whether the side panel speed difference of 250-300 RPM is normal.
