If you have 6 slots and 6-2MB DDR3 sticks, the reason literature suggests a specific order is to ensure proper functionality. Even if all sticks are identical, following the correct sequence matters for performance and stability. I understand you might be confused about the details, but it’s important for optimal operation. Hope this clarifies things—thanks!

With 6x RAM sticks, every slot would be filled. If you had fewer, only specific slots would get data.

Thanks, I meant GB instead of MB. If I put two 4-GB sticks followed by four 2-GB sticks and it works, would that count as triple channel? Thanks.

It's possible this approach could help, though it's uncertain. The instructions for use are likely accessible on the internet.

Just checking if this board comes from an HP Elite Desktop. It seems to be a 1366 model, but I think it might resemble a 1156 design. That 1156 is quite uncommon now since it originally featured six memory slots.

It's an HP old desktop with a Pegatron IPMTB-TK mb, but the manual isn't available online. The MOBO had a label showing a DIMM order of 214365, which didn't clarify the placement of each stick. After some research, it wasn't clear why instructions emphasized a specific slot arrangement. I purchased two new 4GB sticks and combined them with the original 4-2GB sticks. I filled the slots first with the new ones, then the older ones. I used a tool called CPUID-CPU-Z, which listed triple channel memory, so I thought I was in good shape and didn't need to worry. Thanks for your help.

Cooling down the 1366 keeps it performing well.

You're all set and functioning nicely.

The manual provides instructions for setting up the board.
For the RAM slots, insert the 4GB sticks into slots 2 and 4, and the 2GB sticks into the remaining ones.
The instructions mention compatibility with an IPMTB-GS, but the diagrams match those of an IPMTB-TK.

Oh and just a heads up back when your PC was new we were all still running 32 bit OS Windows. So 4 Gb and 8 Gb memory stick were not common back than. That's way manual does not list 4 or 8.
