Cores are already fixed, but essentially yes, you'd need to enter the bios and establish a maximum power limit for the CPU to maintain cooling. The issue is that many people aren't aware of this requirement.

You might not notice the difference between a 14700 and a 265 when using a 5070 ti or lower. These reviews use a 4090 to avoid GPU bottlenecks. A 265 would be better if you're worried about long-term performance issues. Still, the 14700 is likely to be a strong choice in a few years. I'm not sure which one will cause a bottleneck with a 5080, but they could work well together if you're stuck with Intel.
I recommend the 14700k because it comes with more features out of the box. If you're considering a 5080, power and efficiency shouldn't be a problem, so stick with the 14700k. I'm satisfied with mine, but I got it for both productivity and gaming purposes.

The AK400 features only four direct-contact heatpipes and a single fan. During testing, a Ryzen 3900X reached 82°C in one scenario. Although this model differs from the 14700 CPU you mentioned, it provides insight into the temperatures achievable with a mid-range cooler such as the AK400.

You might want to look at alternatives offering superior cooling, like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE. It has seven heatpipes instead of four in the AK400 and two fans instead of one.
The Phantom Spirit 120SE is priced at $35.00 for those in the USA. Be sure to verify the available height before purchasing.

The chart illustrates the power usage of a 14700K CPU running at stock settings (not overclocked). The vertical blue bars represent consumption, while the grey bars show lower values for the AMD 7800X3D.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel...0k/23.html
In demanding applications, the 14700K can exceed 270W. Running it on the AK400 may cause it to reach 100°C and throttle in many programs.
If you opt for an AMD X3D "gaming" processor, using the AK400 temporarily could be a viable option, thanks to its reduced power draw.

Hello, many thanks for the detailed response. I've switch to 14700K and you're right, my AK400 is not able to keep up with the temperatures. While there's no degradation in performance, switching from 10700 gave a tremendous boost in gaming performance, but the CPU is hitting 80-92 C while gaming, sometimes it fluctuates to 100C.
While i was applying thermal paste, i ran out of it, however the top half the CPU was completely covered with paste, i assumed that the pressure from the cooler will evenly spread it. I have new thermal paste now, shall i re apply the paste properly and check for temperatures again? I'm fine as long as it stay below 90C or from 80-85C while gaming since i guess that's expected from 14700K. Thanks for the cooler recommendation but it's no available locally and i will have to pay shipping and import duties.
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB is available locally at 50$, would that be a better option than my AK400?

That’s one of the top air coolers available. The Deepcool ak620 would also perform well and is quite budget-friendly.

Hey there, buddy, I'm getting a fresh cooler now since I've reapplied the new thermal paste (Corsair TM30), but the temps are still way too high.

Since I haven't used a P-E mixed CPU before, I suggest AMD's Ryzen 7 9700x.

Bought Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO, it significantly reduced my GPU temperatures by 20 degrees. Under heavy use it never hit 85°C, and when idle it stays between 30 to mid-40°C. As long as it doesn't exceed 90°C, I'm satisfied.
