I'm setting up a custom gaming PC tailored for gaming purposes. I’m not planning to assemble another personal computer, but I’ll upgrade parts later, so this system needs to be adaptable. It’s currently functional at 1080p at 165Hz, and my monitor is an LG UltraGear 32" with 165Hz. I’d like your advice before making any changes. My current setup supports 1080p at 165Hz, but I’m curious about the CPU cooler. Should I opt for an air cooler or an AIO for better long-term performance? The air model I have is the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE with 66.17 CFM. Would this be more suitable than an AIO for durability and efficiency?

Building a custom setup won't achieve that. Around half the FPS from 165 Hz is possible; without DXR (DirectX Ray Tracing), more FPS would be achievable but still far from 165 FPS; Without DXR, higher FPS would be attainable, though not close to 165 FPS; Source: If you aim for 165 FPS at 1080p, consider the RTX 4080; Or with DXR enabled, only the RTX 4090 can reach around 145 FPS on 1080p; Source: Indeed, the main concern is the fan in air coolers. Swapping it is simple and inexpensive. With AIO coolers, they generally last 2-3 years, while top models can last 3-5 years. The parts that often fail are usually the pump. If it stops working, you're forced to replace everything, including a brand-new AIO, which is significantly more expensive than a single 120/140mm fan. You’re right to note that both coolers rely on ambient air for cooling. So why do AIOs claim better performance? 🤔

I understand but I don't play at those high settings like those tests. I usually play at low-medium levels on games such as Fn, Valve and Siege. Also, will the 6800 xt perform better overall than the 7700 xt? I could spend an extra $30 for a better GPU. I think I'll go with the air cooler since I've built systems with that same one and it works well! Or are there any other coolers that might be better?

In the GamersNexus review, the Thermalright PE 120 SE air cooler outperformed the NH-D15. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm4hyIHe1PM

Both results are essentially the same, as shown in the comparison link. You can also observe this from the review images I shared.

Sure, I'll grab the 7700 xt because it's more affordable unless someone clarifies why the 6800 xt is preferable.

If you check the 7700 XT review I linked, then you'll notice that with the 6800 XT, you could achieve about 11 frames per second more when DXR is turned off. However, a slightly better GPU comes at a higher price, and it's up to you to weigh whether the extra ~11 FPS is worth the additional cost. The 6800 XT is more expensive than the 7700 XT.

Do you want to clarify the reason behind replacing the PC case? Because choosing a PC case is a personal decision and it's up to the OP to evaluate it regularly, not just because of your preference. Why should I impose my opinion on others, especially when switching from black to white without mentioning it?
