My old PSU failed and I had to replace it fast, so I picked a NZXT C1000 and got it right away. If I order a new one online, I could get the same PSU but a 1200W for just a bit more than now. I’m wondering if it’s better to stick with the one I have or switch to a 1200W model. I can return the C1000 within 28 days and get my money back. My current specs are a 5800x3d and a 9070xt, so I don’t really need a 1200W PSU right now, though it might be useful later.

In the end, your decision is up to you. But unless you're ready to buy before the refund arrives and processing ends, it might be wiser to stay with what you have.

I can purchase the C1200 and submit the C1000 once I receive the C1200. That’s what I understand you’re suggesting.

As you mentioned before, you don't really need it, but if you wish, you can try.

1200w becomes ineffective when the power supply only offers a single PCIe 12v 2x6 port.

Other than for workstation applications, there's no need for two, since SLI is dead.
The Intel i9-14900K can easily exceed 300W sustained power if you set the PL1 and PL2 at 250W or higher.
A 1200W PSU with a single PCIe 2x6 connection is not useless.

Upcoming premium graphics cards will feature two of those connectors.
