Question$1000 build advice
Question$1000 build advice
Can the RX 7700XT and 7800XT match nvidia's performance in ray tracing? For gaming value, they're better options between $300 and $500, but they fall short if ray tracing matters.
Focusing on RT performance with a new card priced at 1k USD (or even 2k) isn't the most effective use of your budget. The 4060 series lacks the capability to actually ray trace, and they are easily surpassed by other options in their price bracket. I wouldn’t consider the 4070 worth it when you’re spending around 600 dollars for just 12 gigs of VRAM on a reduced databus. I’d prefer a used 3080 Ti instead, as it handles higher resolutions better. RDNA2 still offers the best value at this cost.
Similarly, opting for an Intel processor for an upper-midrange build in 2024 seems like a misallocation of funds into a different (though more efficient) path. Zen 5 is on the horizon, which means we’re already seeing discounts on Zen 4 – and you can even overclock on several high-end motherboards for over 120 USD. That’s not necessary with a 7800x3d chipset.
If we’re committed to ray tracing at this price, here’s a suggested build:
