Hi all,
There are around 20 threads already discussing this issue, but none of my attempts have resolved it. The problem is sporadic yet increasing. In games like Elite Dangerous or Wasteland 2, the screen freezes while audio and background gameplay continue (though sometimes completely). I can usually exit by alt-tabbing and closing the process in Task Manager, but most times the event manager displays a message about the display driver stopping and recovering. Still, the issue remains inconsistent. Sometimes I play for hours without any problems, other times I can't even play for more than five minutes before it crashes. I've also noticed that after installing a game fresh, it usually works well initially, but once it crashes, the frequency of crashes increases. I've tried several fixes: reinstalling drivers, adjusting TDR timeout in regedit, lowering GPU settings, using one monitor instead of dual, avoiding borderless windowed mode, disabling graphics-intensive options, reseating the graphics card, and turning off GSYNC. Right now, I'm unsure what's causing it—possibly a driver error—but without more details, I don't know how to fix it here.

System specs:
Intel i7-3820
NVIDIA GTX 1070
Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3
16GB RAM
Windows 10

I'm considering reinstalling Windows just in case it's an OS-related error.

I can't provide any assistance, though I understand this was a frequent problem with my old GTX 650. Now I have a 980 and rarely encounter the issue, but it still happens. It's puzzling that Nvidia hasn't addressed this before, as it's been an ongoing concern for years.
