I'm experiencing a new issue for the first time. After working with my computer for six years, it starts displaying an overvoltage warning on the screen and I have to press F1 to enter BIOS for setup. Once inside, I encounter a black screen with no further output, and this happens every time I reboot. After replacing the power supply unit with a new one, the same problem persists. I updated the BIOS to the latest version from ASUS and checked all connections, including the CPU and RAM, but the issue remains unchanged. The Corsair AIO fan is running and the fans are spinning, though the other four case fans are not. I replaced the CMOS battery and reset it before flashing the BIOS, but the Q code stays at 00. The machine is six years old and has never had problems before. I disassembled it to check the motherboard, GPU, RAM, SSD, and CPU for any signs of damage, but found nothing. I don’t have the funds to swap parts, so I’m counting on Tom’s Hardware to assist with troubleshooting. My initial guess is that the onboard BIOS chip or the motherboard might be faulty, possibly due to the non-functioning fans and the persistent 00 code. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
the cpu is an i7 5930k, paired with corsair 16gb ram and a strix 980ti gpu.
I changed the setup by removing the mb from the bench and added a cpu, cooler, one stick of ram, ssd and gpu to prevent any possible short circuit. When power is pressed, mb turns off immediately but comes back on without any post, as the code no longer goes past 00. Anyone have advice?
It seems like a poor motherboard, you've simply cleared the CMOS and refreshed the BIOS. Which model are you using? Did your CPU get overclocked before this problem arose?
My CPU is no longer functioning, I used the same board before it failed, which caused issues with 3 5820k's and an Xeon. Asus' OC socket was reportedly problematic for x99 CPUs, and they seem to avoid discussing it. My board might work with another x99 CPU, but I’m certain the issue is resolved. I’ll need to check my past Asus RMA records for more details.
