Hi,
Do you need a Microsoft account for using Windows 11 or during the installation process?
Can I install Bitlocker in Win 11 Home without an MS account?
Are there any encryption tools available for Win 11 Home? If not, what free alternatives exist that utilize the Hardware TPM? I’m wondering because Win 11 relies heavily on TPM and might not work without it. Encryption that doesn’t use TPM tends to be slower and less secure.
Thanks,

BitLocker is available only in Windows 11 Pro.
For the Microsoft account, it’s mainly required during the first setup.
This is to enable it or if you need something from the Microsoft Store.
Once that’s done, set up a few local accounts and use them for regular tasks.
That’s how I manage things.
I’ve had this Windows 11 system running for more than a year. I logged in to the MS account perhaps just a couple of times.
The same applies to my Windows 10 systems.

When there is no internet access during setup, you can bypass account creation entirely.
(disconnect ethernet/wifi)

Will this prevent Windows 11 activation until an MS account is logged in? Is it possible to activate Windows 11 without using an MS account?

I enjoy purchasing a Win 11 Home laptop and want to secure it if it gets stolen. I need encryption options so the thief can't access my data. For Win 11 Pro, are there any reliable free encryption tools that utilize the laptop's hardware TPM?

If your serial check passes, it will start without needing an account, though maintaining an account ensures you can reactivate Windows if you switch hardware and the serial number becomes invalid.

Are you asking about the serial number on the motherboard?

Bitlocker isn't supported in the Windows 11 Home Edition. To enable Bitlocker you must activate the Pro version. On Windows 11 you can also use a Local Account, which allows you to bypass logging into your MS account if necessary. However, I'm unsure about using Bitlocker with a local account since I haven't used it before but have Windows 11 Pro. You're free to try Bitlocker for encrypting files as it includes security keys, which you can store in your Microsoft Account. But this requires the Windows 11 Pro to be activated.

That isn't always accurate.
A laptop with Win 11 S includes BitLocker.
Mark it as promoting Win 11 S to Win 11 Home (free), and the BitLocker remains intact. My Surface Go 3 tablet/laptop fits this description.
Win 11 Home with BitLocker included.
