Question Whether reducing W on the helper can lower the heat? Or does it increase it? (RTX 3060 6gigs)
Using ghelper on my RTX 3060 with a laptop. Is reducing W to 5W (dynamic boost) a good way to lower the heat, or can I do the opposite technically? I'm new to this, so please explain. Thanks!
Did you test MSI Afterburner to adjust the voltage of your discrete GPU? Could you share the laptop's brand, model, and SKU? The BIOS version for that specific laptop is also needed.
MSI Afterburner became unresponsive on my laptop, preventing any adjustments to fan speeds. It's frustrating when manufacturers interfere with user control. I usually rely on ghelper for minor tweaks like W and temperature targets. I'm curious if ghelper functions correctly now that I updated it. I deleted the config.json file during the latest ghelper update to ensure everything was fine.
So I ran a brief check with my laptop adapter and chassis concerning heat. Left it alone for a while, idle, no Steam running, set to 5W dynamic boost with temperature limits at the lowest possible level so it could cool faster. The power brick and chassis didn’t cause any discomfort or abnormal heat, just normal warmth. I checked the second monitor too; it didn’t reduce the temperature noticeably but also didn’t raise it. During the test, I used both hands to feel for heat and it didn’t burn my hands, so everything seems fine. HWinfo is still showing good temperatures as usual.
