Question Weird PC freezes due to OBS?
I've noticed some unusual PC freezes that seem linked to OBS. When opening browsers or switching windows, it freezes heavily but doesn't lock entirely. During OBS streaming, the video freezes completely while audio and stream remain normal, leading me to suspect a GPU, driver, or OBS problem.
The most peculiar aspect is that this behavior only appears after prolonged use of OBS. For instance, during a long day of gaming, browsing, using Stable Diffusion, Photoshop, and other tasks—including stress tests and benchmarks—I confirmed everything was fine until after about 30 minutes of streaming. Restarting OBS immediately resolved the issue, but launching any game afterward still works. Opening a browser causes freezing, though not as severe as with OBS.
It appears starting OBS might trigger some lingering problems. The only change I noticed was updating my video drivers to amd adrenaline 23.9.3. Have others experienced similar issues? Any advice would be appreciated. Apart from deleting and reinstalling OBS, I’m not sure that will help, as I’ll likely do that anyway. I’m aware I didn’t capture an event log, and I’ll check it later if necessary.
There’s no temperature concern. CPU or GPU usage doesn’t spike excessively during freezing; instead, it seems to be a follow-up issue.
UPDATE: Event log indicates only abrupt shutdowns, with no other errors.
System details:
- CPU: r5 5600x (Stress-tested in Ryzen-Master)
- RAM: 2x8 3600 cl16 gskill (all good)
- GPU: 6900xt (Stress-tested and benchmarked—perfect)
- Storage: Ssd Gammax S11 (healthy, no errors)
- Operating System: Windows 10
Cheers
I once used OBS but it had so many issues that I removed it. Probably it wasn't the same then, since it wouldn't still be there today.
You might want to give Davinci Resolve a try because I've heard it works really well with Radeons.
