Question Wanting to upgrade, ryan 3600 versus 10400f?
Hello everyone
I’m based in Argentina, so prices are really high and it’s hard to find what I need.
My current setup is:
i7 3770
12GB DDR3 RAM
1050Ti
500GB SSD
750W GPU
I’m thinking about an upgrade.
My main purpose is work, so I was considering adding a motherboard, a micro, and more RAM.
I have these choices:
Budget options:
Ryzen 2600
i3 10100 (I5 8600)
Desired upgrades:
i5 10400
Ryzen 5 3600 (Ryzen 5500)
My main concern is which pair would be better. If I have the 2600 vs the 10100, and if I can afford the 10400 vs the 3600, would it make a difference?
My second question: would stretching to a Ryzen 5600 help? The difference isn’t huge.
I mostly use my PC for data analysis—Excel, Power BI, Python—and some gaming and esports.
Also, Rocket League and World of Warcraft.
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.
The psu is XFX Pro 750W XXX Edition Power Supply Review - Page 10.
XFX’s power supplies are known for offering excellent value. Although they don’t manufacture their own units, they utilize one of the most robust ones available.

It has been in use for over 8 years.
She’s been running this rig with a GTX 770 until last year when she moved to a better model. RIP (I still miss her, 5% better than the 1050ti).
It’s a solid psu. If I remember right, it’s based on a sunflower model. Hard OCAP or another reviewer had that detail but couldn’t locate the full review.
There are still enough capabilities in the 3770 to work well with a better graphics card than the 1050ti. It may not match the power of top-tier modern cards and could leave some performance on the table, even with a more recent "60(x)" level card. Consider adding a solid power supply that adds value when upgrading the main components, along with matching RAM for dual-channel performance. The graphics card and power supply will remain important for future upgrades, while the RAM will help maximize the current CPU's potential given the existing setup.
To achieve a more powerful processor, you'll also need to purchase a new motherboard and RAM.
Here are some passmark performance ratings to consider:
I7-3770 – 8 6371/2074
R5-2600 – 12 13208/2254
I3-10100 – 8 8830/2637
I5-8600 – 6 9903/2585
I5-10400 – 12 12357/2593
R5-5500 – 12 19512/3053
The first value indicates processing threads, the second is the rating when all threads are fully utilized, and the last is the single-thread performance.
These figures are useful for gaming and desktop speed.
You can check the passmark for any other processors you're interested in.
What is your motherboard model?
CPU-Z can provide that information.
Your motherboard's support page will list compatible CPU upgrades.
It’s likely you’ll need a new motherboard, and your existing DDR3 RAM won’t function without replacement.
Thank you for the responses. I will take this into account; I plan to search for a good deal and upgrade accordingly.
