I reduced the voltage of my asus rog rift strix g531gt-bq024t with intel xtu to -140mV and it functioned perfectly. However, when I used the default settings, only the core offset remained at 0.00mV while other parameters like turbo boost power max changed. Now the system is acting strangely, and the GPU seems to be overclocking beyond its intended limits. The CPU clock is set to 4000mhz, the GPU is overclocked at 1935mhz, and the laptop is overheating heavily with loud noises. I need guidance on what to do next.

Which Intel XTU version were you using for your undervolt or did you opt for Throttle Stop? Were you running the most recent BIOS update for your laptop? I understand that after Windows 10's update, undervolting or adjusting CPU voltages is no longer permitted. Still, I'm curious about your process for reaching -140—was it a gradual change in steps of 10 or 5?

I used the newest version of intel xtu and adjusted the core offset to -140mV, which functioned properly. However, when I applied the default profile from intel xtu, the offset reset to 0mV but altered the turbo boost power maximum to 70w. The laptop became unstable, so I lowered it to 45w, yet both the GPU and CPU still overclocked.

Open the BIOS and restore to the original settings. This will return it to factory defaults.

The issue remains unresolved after adjusting turbo and short power limits. Removing Intel 8u and resetting BIOS to defaults does not fix it.

Remove Xtu from its interference with the BIOS during startup. Restoring the BIOS settings should resolve the issue.

Is it secure to remove the software at this moment, or would reaching out to customer support be advisable?

I don’t think removing it will improve the situation. You might want to contact customer support, though they usually suggest resetting the laptop or restoring it to a previous state.

I don’t understand what XTU actually does. It might just change values that can be set to default by uninstalling and using default BIOS settings, or it could remove the manufacturer’s defaults and install its own. That makes me worried about uninstalling XTU. I’ve never done undervolting or overclocking before, so I’m new to these things.

I removed the XTU and performed a BIOS reset to defaults, yet the issue persists. Could you please assist?
