Question Support for two 5120 x 2880 Asus PA27JCV monitors at 60 Hz refresh
I have just received two Asus PA27JCV monitors and plan to run them at full 5K resolution of 5120 x 2880 at 60 Hz. My RTX 3060 doesn’t support that setting. I’m open to buying a new graphics card, though the maximum refresh rate is only 60 Hz, so a top gaming GPU might not be necessary. I’ve searched for NVIDIA selector guides but haven’t found much help. The AI suggests a 4060 could work, while a 4070 would be preferable. Do I really need that much power even outside of gaming?
I intend to use this workstation for music publishing, photo scanning, and video up conversion and editing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
You're experiencing issues at 30Hz? You'll need a card with DisplayPort 2.0 or HDMI 2.1 support. This doesn't necessarily require an extremely costly GPU. The RX 6600 would work for HDMI, and the RTX 4060 is also suitable. For DisplayPort 2.1, you'd need an Intel B570 or B580, or a newer RTX 50 series or RX 9070/9070 XT. It's definitely worth upgrading for better video conversion performance.
I'm examining a RTX 4060 and believe video upconversion could be beneficial too. I've already used hardware encoding from my 3060. Some advice suggests the 4060 might not be fast enough, recommending a 4070 instead. However, since I'm not a gamer, would that still be relevant?
It really shouldn’t matter for anything other than gaming. As long as the GPU can handle that resolution and refresh rate, you’ll be okay running those screens. A quicker GPU might assist with faster video encoding as mentioned before, but it won’t change whether you can run the displays—it just depends on the HDMI/displayport version included.
