Question Sudden Performance Loss after MOBO, CPU, RAM change
Question Sudden Performance Loss after MOBO, CPU, RAM change
I own an Asus PRIME A320M-K, Ryzen 5 3350G, RX 560 4gb, and 8gb DDR4 at 2666mhz.
My previous setup was an Asus p8h61m with 16gb DDR3 and an Intel i5 3470s, same GPU.
Post-upgrade I observed FPS drops in CS2 and other titles. Before the upgrade my average was 127fps (73fps 1% low), now it's 104 average with 63fps (1% low).
I’ve verified the system settings—all cores are active, no idle cores.
Could it be related to the RAM or the FTPM?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Did you reinstall the OS after the platform swap? Speaking of platforms, you should list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
We'll be seeing a before and after due to your upgrade path.
Moved thread from CPUs section to Systems section.
CPU: Ryzen 5 3350G
CPU cooler: LC POWER Budget
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A320M-K, Latest BIOS
RAM: Kingston 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (SYSTEM), Kingston SSD 500GB, Toshiba HDD 1TB
GPU: AMD RX 560 4GB
Power supply: 2 years old 550W Bronze Plus
Case: MS Industrial M300
Operating system: Windows 11
Display: HP P22 G4 75Hz
I did not reinstall the OS after the upgrade.
After upgrading, I observed a drop in FPS in CS2 and other games. Previously, my average was 127fps with a slight 73fps low (1%). Now it’s around 104 average with a 63% low.
I’ve verified the system settings—all cores are active, none are idle.
Could this be related to the RAM or the FTPM? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If you didn't perform a reinstall, the PC might still have outdated drivers installed. It's advisable to save any important data and then reinstall Windows to let it adjust to the new hardware. Currently, things might function, though switching from an Intel build to an AMD setup would be quite challenging—similar to changing an engine from a Cheverolet to a Honda. It could work, but the results are uncertain.
Yeah, I think I'll probably go ahead with it. The main thing holding me back is the need to install apps and games again. It's not a huge issue, but with my 4.3mb internet speed, it feels significant. What do you think about RAM causing problems? When I start CS2 and Discord, they use up almost all of it, like 7.8 or 7.9.
I wonder about that PSU: "2 years old 550W Bronze Plus". What make and model is it? It might struggle with current needs, especially during high power usage like gaming, and could start to fail.
The ram size was changed from 2x8GB DDR3 to 1x8GB DDR4. Is that accurate?
Ryzen systems are quite sensitive to ram performance. A single channel setup will definitely hurt system performance.
It’s likely your system is running low on memory when gaming with only 8GB installed.
Please share a screenshot from Task Manager, specifically the Performance/Memory section while under gaming load (upload to imgru.com and post the link).
The CPU matches the previous model's TDP.
I plan to perform a fresh installation.
Yes, I used a 16gb DDR3 in my previous setup now switching to an 8gb DDR4. I believe this change might be causing the issue, but I plan to do a fresh Windows install and then download CS2 (which should take around 12 hours).
