Question Strange sound coming from the motherboard - could it be related to the RAM?
I understand precisely what you're referring to. I'm not a specialist in electronics, but I've worked with them long enough to identify the sound you mentioned. I can hear it clearly in the video, though it sounds mechanical—there are no moving parts involved, so it can't be caused by physical movement. It reminds me of cooking bacon, but in a digital environment, right?
It's really frustrating.
Wrap a sheet of paper around a paper towel tube or roll up a sheet, position it near your ear, and attempt to pinpoint the sound. It might be the PSU causing it.
This suggestion is intriguing, but it won't affect my view.
Not always... there might be significantly less strain on the system at that moment.
Alright, so that was actually a really good idea using the paper.
The sound is coming from the CPU - kind of makes me nervous, but it became loudest when I was able to listen underneath the giant heat sink I have over the CPU.
What are your thoughts?
I took out the CPU and refreshed the thermal paste. Checked the CPU and motherboard connections for any problems—no visible issues found. Reinstalled the CPU again, but the issue remains unchanged.
It seems unusual. I'm not sure if a CPU can produce that noise. It might be something on the motherboard, maybe connected to power like a voltage regulator. Are all your PSU cables properly attached? You could consider returning the motherboard if needed.
Does adjusting the volume affect the outcome? Also, most folks enjoy bacon... 😛
Lol - bacon is definitely a positive part of life, right? To clarify your concern - the noise isn't coming from the speakers. It seems to be originating from the computer's hardware, possibly the CPU or nearby components. The issue appears only during the BIOS setup, not when starting Windows.
