Question SATA/Molex 6 pin connections on Antec NE 550W gold PSU
Question SATA/Molex 6 pin connections on Antec NE 550W gold PSU
I understand I might already have the answer, but I’m trying to calm my mind because things seem to be going wrong lately.
I received a PC that had been stored for several years; I cleaned it up physically and plan to install it soon.
My main concern is about the power supply unit—there are four connections, three labeled SATA/Molex, and one obvious 8-pin PCI-E port for the GPU. I need to verify if all three 6-pin SATA/Molex connections are identical.
Anyway, I’m a bit nervous after recent problems, especially with modular PSUs in the past.
I wanted to confirm that the (3) 6 pin SATA/Molex are all the same.
You might want to elaborate with the cables, I'm assuming you're trying to repurpose cables meant for another PSU on another PSU of a different make and/or model. If my assumption is correct please stop and elaborate on both PSU models.
Just an FYI, the pinouts for all PSU's are not the same, so you can ruin your PSU or everything the PSU is hooked up to in your build.
Thank you for your reply. I should have been more precise. The PSU already had some cables connected when I got it, but it's missing the PCI-e cable, which means I'm forced to purchase a low-power GPU because an Antec representative informed me they don't sell replacement parts. Still, fine.
I also took out the cable attached to the SATA/Molex 6-pin connector on the PSU and did the same for the other one. I think all three connections labeled SATA/Molex on the PSU are identical. I've had a bad experience with a semi-modular PSU before, so I'm a bit cautious.
This refers to a SATA or Molex 6-pin connector that doesn't use six pins. Are you asking about the pin count on the side that plugs into the power supply unit? Modular PSU cables have unique designs at that connection point, making it hard to describe them as standard. It's important to stay clear when discussing PSU components to avoid confusion and potential damage.
Sorry, I don't have the exact details. The relevant parts are the connections on the side of the PSU where the cables connect. There are three 6-pin connections labeled SATA/Molex and one with an 8-pin connection marked PCI-E. I can't recall which of the six pin connections were removed for the HDD and which for the DVD drive. It seems the three SATA/Molex ones might be identical. The PC came with the cords already connected to the PSU.
It is the semi-modular PSU. That was my assumption, but I wanted to confirm. Sadly, the prior owner barely used the PC and didn't require a graphics card, so no PCI-e cable was provided.
