Question Ryzen 7 5700X overheating at 90°C
Question Ryzen 7 5700X overheating at 90°C
Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5700X and observed that the CPU temperature reaches about 80°C during heavy use, yet the CPU cooler fan doesn’t increase speed even at that level.
Here are my system details:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
Motherboard: MSI A520M PRO
RAM: 16GB DDR4
GPU: AMD RX 6600
PSU: Raidmax XTB 650W
Storage: ADATA 512GB Legend 710 NVMe SSD
Cooler: Auras Beast Breath (air cooler)
I’ve tried the following:
- Rechecked and reapplied thermal paste (new).
- Modified fan curve in BIOS, but the speed remains insufficient.
- Updated BIOS to the latest version.
Questions:
1. Is it typical for the Ryzen 7 5700X to hit ~80°C under load with this cooler?
2. Might there be a fan control setting issue (PWM/DC) on my MSI A520M PRO?
3. Which budget air cooler would best help maintain lower temperatures?
Thank you for your assistance!
I've never come across this cooler before. Even Google doesn't appear to know about it, except on a certain Algerian online shop. I think the fan isn't spinning faster because it just can't (it lacks sufficient power). You linked it to the CPU_Fan header? You should consider getting a reliable cooler from a reputable brand like the Thermaltake Peerless Assassin 120 SE or the ID-Cooling SE-214-XT if you're on a tight budget.
Thermalright burst assassin offers a compact design that keeps my 5600t at 36-40c idle, with performance similar to the Tomb Raider 1080p ultra at 50-55c. The included thermal paste has a rubbery texture and may ooze out in messy spots, though it’s slightly better than the MX-4. If it doesn’t look right, it’s probably just a minor difference compared to other reviews. The initial application was decent, but later tries felt a bit awkward with the tf 7 paste. It’s worth noting that some users think it resembles a Pokémon cooler, while others suspect it could be confused with 'beast breath'—possibly due to language barriers. Possible causes for overheating include a damaged heatpipe or a warped base, though these issues have decreased since similar products faded from the market.
It seems to be a budget cooler. It behaves as expected for a budget model. It’s clear this is likely a generic low-end option. When manufacturers use gaming jargon for their products, it usually doesn’t reflect strong cooling capabilities. For higher temperatures, consider investing more. Upgrade to a better cooler.
