Question Replacement PSU for 4070 Super and 7800X3DX
Question Replacement PSU for 4070 Super and 7800X3DX
Hi!
I just upgraded my PC and got the Corsair RM850e PSU. It’s really noisy—both the coils and the fan bearings are a big problem. I’m thinking about swapping it out, but I’m unsure what to choose. My budget is about €150 to €200, and this isn’t my first noisy PSU in 15 years. I want something quiet, preferably without coil whine or loud fans. Also, how important is compatibility with ATX 3.0? I don’t plan to upgrade soon after this.
All devices that produce or receive power will show some type of coil whine. Have you identified the origin of the noise to be from the PUS?
The Corsair device is not a bad one. You may wish to reach out to Corsair and inform them about the coil whine issue.
Yes, the issue is definitely coming from the power supply unit.
Many users reported problems with the RM850e PSU, mainly due to lower quality transistors and a less efficient fan compared to the RM850x.
Links provided include discussions on forums and Reddit about noise and performance concerns.

is a steal for €100. Here's a review
XPG Core Reactor 850 W Review
The ADATA XPG Core Reactor 850 W is a fine power supply, offering high efficiency, good overall performance, and excellent build quality. The warranty is also long enough, and pricing is reasonable, but could be a bit lower.

An objectionable coil whine is what I would regard as a defect.
Your PSU remains under warranty and may be replaced.
Reach out to Corsair regarding your concern.
Given that ATX 3.0 is a recent standard, it would make sense to incorporate it as a requirement.
Seasonic vertex GX-850w with a 12-year warranty could be an excellent alternative:

as others suggested, reach out to Corsair and request a replacement. The 4070 Super and 7800X3D wouldn't put too much strain on the RM850e.
