Question Red Dead Redemption 2 screen flickering
Hello everyone.
I just installed a new PC about a week ago, and the red flickering issue only shows up when playing RDR2. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it appears occasionally, especially after longer sessions. I previously played Mafia 1: DE without any issues, so I suspect it’s not a GPU problem. Maybe I changed my graphics settings incorrectly—I’m not sure. I’ve watched several videos about optimizing RDR2 settings, but it’s still something I don’t fully understand.
I didn't notice any red flickering in that video, though a few of your adjustments could be a bit excessive. I followed Digital Foundry's graphics guide while playing the game.
My GTX 1080 SC performs almost as well as your 2060, just slightly better, and it's been a while since I played the game. I'm sure your settings are higher than what I used.
When you look closely, the trees had red edges, that's what I meant. I don't think my settings are too high; I'm stable at 60-70 FPS. Please let me know what you meant.
It's often tough to locate such specifics in a 1080p video on YouTube unless it accumulates a lot of views, which would warrant VP9 processing. That's why I adjust my 1080p uploads to 1440p, ensuring VP9 processing regardless of view count. For accurate results, I recommend a 30,000 ABR two-pass compression using Avidemux, which supports the necessary codec.
I'm noting the visible color banding in the smoke, which reflects YouTube's subpar 1080p handling. You'll also notice the same tinting on the tree leaves, matching the fire's hue.
Regarding performance, it's hard to accept. The 2060 12GB model was labeled impractical due to insufficient VRAM benefits, making it seem more suited for mining than gaming.
