Question Random, sporadic vibration, pitchy squeal sound
Question Random, sporadic vibration, pitchy squeal sound
Good evening, everyone!
Occasionally I notice a rattling sound, a squeaky and grinding noise from my PC, whether it's running a desktop or a game. The noise seems to happen a few times per minute and disappears quickly. It appears around the 3-4 second point in the recording.
Here’s an example of the sound at that moment.
I tried these components:
W11 pro latest updates
9800x3d stock speeds, no overclock or undervoltage
PNY GeForce RTX™ 5070 Ti Overclocked (very slight undervoltage, but the noise was the same with the standard setting)
MSI PRO X870-P WiFi Motherboard
Cooler Master Masterliquid Atmos II 360mm
Lian Li Lancool 216 TG ATX RGB
Power Supply - 750w power delivery
32 GB (2x16) 6000MT/u memory CL 32
Western Digital 2 TB WB Blue NVME.
I also had the same problem before, using a different 5070 Ti, MSI pro b650-p WiFi card instead of the Pro x870-p.
Any suggestions or advice would be really helpful! Thanks in advance.
It's strange since I experienced the same sound in an earlier build, with various fans and different cooling solutions (same brand but different models like the master atmos 240 versus the atmos 360mm). It can't be anything else, can it? I've noticed coil whine before on my GPU, but this isn't consistent—it's intermittent, happening only a few times per minute for short durations. It wouldn't match the steady buzzing or high-pitched noise I usually hear. Also, the PC is relatively new and started showing this issue just yesterday. Thanks!
same power supply, same drives? It could also be a hard drive that's spinning on or off.
Same PSU model (new, identical to the previous build). The system uses only a single 2TB NVMe drive. Updated components include W11 Pro with latest updates, 9800x3d stock speeds without overclocking or undervolting, PNY GeForce RTX 5070 Ti overclocked with minor undervolt but consistent noise patterns at stock settings, MSI PRO X870-P WiFi motherboard, Cooler Master Masterliquid Atmos II 360mm, Lian Li Lancool 216 TG ATX RGB, and a 750w power supply with 32 GB (2x16) 6000MT/U memory.
It's also completely feasible that the issue lies within the case itself, possibly due to a loose component that moves with certain fan speeds.
