Question Random restarts and BSODs – Unable to boot into Windows (WHEA-Logger event 18)
Hello,
My computer has been functioning smoothly for roughly a year. But recently, it has started restarting unpredictably—sometimes during idle tasks, other times under light or heavy usage. Occasionally, it also displays BSODs instead of a clean reboot.
I managed to run the /sfc scannow and /dism restore utilities, though they didn’t resolve the issue permanently. The mdsched tool confirmed there were no problems with the RAM. I updated the BIOS, but nothing changed.
In the Event Viewer, I found an error related to "WHEA-Logger 18." Before diving into the details, the system would reboot again. Now it’s stuck in a continuous restart cycle: as soon as Windows boots, the PC restarts itself, sometimes triggering a BSOD. Still, I can access the BIOS settings.
I’ve swapped out RAM, GPU, and PSU, but none of those changes helped. All driver versions are current, yet the constant reboot persists. I attempted a full Windows reinstall via USB, but it ended with a BSOD during installation.
I suspect the power supply might have been subpar—possibly too weak—and after a year, it finally failed, causing system damage. I’m concerned about this and want to avoid taking the machine to a repair shop just yet.
Could there be another troubleshooting step I should try before deciding to seek professional help?
Here’s my current setup:
- Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro Wifi
- Ryzen 5700x
- Crucial Ballistix 2x8gb 3600mhz
- Corsair CV450 80+ Bronze
- Gigabyte Gaming OC 3050
Hello there! Could you share the power supply unit details for your setup?
