Question Random, abrupt and repeated FPS reductions?
Recently, I purchased and upgraded my RAM to 2x8 GB at 3200mhz, then overclocked it to 3200mhz with a voltage of 1.36v and 18-20-20-20-38 timings (though the recommended settings were 16-20-20-20-40 and 1.35v). I changed these because of this same problem.
I checked my RAM for errors or instability, ran HCI MemTest86 and it showed 800% with no issues. I also tried it again using the bootable MemTest86, and it passed without any problems. However, when playing Roblox and using an FPS unlocker, I noticed random drops in FPS—sometimes falling from 120 to 15-20 for a few seconds before returning to normal. Other games caused similar issues only when the timings and voltage matched what the RAM suggested.
Is this related to overclocking or is there another cause? I’m not sure yet, but so far I haven’t seen any instability, BSODs, black screens, or graphics problems. Just this frustrating FPS fluctuation makes me wonder if something is off.
