I located a 9800x3d and plan to assemble it using the 6650xt. I’m considering a 5080 or possibly a 5090 if it meets the requirements. Are there power supplies that can handle both the 8-pin on the 6650xt and the new card? Also, my old non-modular PSU is failing, so I don’t want to use it.

Hey there, I’ve got some info on your old power supply. It’s really worn out and not modular, so I’m avoiding using it. Could you tell me the make and model of your PSU and how old it is? I’d like to wait until the RTX5080 is announced or released before buying a new one.

Regarding your question: there are power supplies that can handle both the 8-pin PCIe 8 (6+2) connector on the 6650xt and the newer cards. One example fits this requirement.

BIG POWER! - Seasonic leaks Nvidia RTX 5090/5080 GPU TDPs - OC3D
Seasonic has updated TDPs for Nvidia’s full RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, offering more power options.

it is an evga 600 watt bronze model. It's not quite a top performer, but it's around 8 years old. I plan to purchase PC components and have a local shop assemble it, which is why I'm considering a replacement. I realize the 600w power supply might not be sufficient for the 5080-5090 if I wasn't more precise.

I understand now. That seasonal web page displaying the plug styles was very helpful.

Some well-designed ATX3.1 power supplies include multiple 6+2 pin PCIe connectors along with the updated 16-pin 12VHPWR connector.

I recently installed a thermaltake gf3 1200 watt into my PC system after acquiring a 7900xtx, as it wasn’t significantly more powerful than a 1000 watt model and featured the nvidia connector.
