Question: Post no keyboard/mouse on new build
Question: Post no keyboard/mouse on new build
I'm facing issues with the display and no keyboard or mouse working on my new PC build. I've cleaned the RAM, reset the CMOS, and re-settled everything multiple times, but it still doesn't work. I went through the forum checklist on the front page. The only clue is that the power button blinks rapidly. I should update the BIOS, but I can do that from the BIOS screen on the motherboard, so I just need to post and reach the BIOS screen.
I previously encountered an issue with the Asus Prime B550M Wifi II after a fresh installation (the board was brand new). My solution involved several steps: placing the entire system on a non-conductive material like cardboard, keeping the power cables intact, turning off the PSU, removing the CMOS battery, using a screwdriver to discharge the power and reset button for 11 seconds, then restarting the system. After rebooting, if I could boot into BIOS by pressing the key, I would immediately update the BIOS to the latest version (preparing fat32/fd with the .CAP bios file). Once updated, returning to BIOS, inserting the CMOS battery while still in BIOS, and making all settings, I would save and reboot.
Now, if replicating the issue by simply loading defaults results in a blank screen, then the fix remains the same, except without updating the BIOS.
I am currently experiencing confusion as a new 5600X with a Prime B550M and 3060Ti, which doesn’t display anything. To test, I placed the PC on cardboard without the CMOS chip on the board (booting without CMOS), and it showed the splash screen. This suggests that if the CMOS isn’t present, I should enter BIOS, restore the CMOS, and save settings to preserve changes. This situation is quite unusual for me.
I wouldn't be surprised if this power supply isn't performing well.
the only Gamemax series i've worked with have been of poor quality.
I should make it clear that all the fans, drives, and lights are functioning properly on their own, which makes me question if the PSU is the issue. I'll keep it at the back of my mind while I work through the troubleshooting.
this is a very light amount of power to run these devices.
this power supply may just not be able to put out enough to run the more heavy components or may have malfunctioned in a way that one or more of the cables are not supplying power at all.
i would return it while the return period is still available and get something better anyway.
i wouldn't want to be relying on this thing for the future and possibly risking the entire setup.
what specific model is it and what is the length of warranty?
and how would i verify this? because it seems like you're making assumptions and i'm not returning components that have functioned well and are still working properly, as i expect a motherboard or processor to be the likely cause. i also mentioned having an old PSU that worked before, so i plan to test it out and share the results.
I didn't ask for your opinion on my power supply, but I wanted to get advice from others who've faced similar problems. Hopefully, someone can help me out. Thanks in advance... though, it seems your comments aren't really useful right now, haha!
